Yoga and Ayurveda are two interrelated branches of the great tree of Vedic knowledge. As many of us begin to incorporate the beneficial practices of yoga into our daily routines, it makes sense to also consider the perspectives & wisdom of Ayurveda to enhance our well-being. 

Ayurveda is a prevention oriented medical system, and focuses on diet as a cornerstone of health. In this workshop & brunch, we’ll consider both our external and internal environments through an ayurvedic lens over the course of the day.



Introduction to Ayurveda – with Doug Hyde

The word Ayurveda comes from the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. It translates as “Science of Life” and is often referred to as Traditional Indian Medicine.  Ayurveda is said to have originated more than 5000 years ago and is believed to be the oldest & most complete health system known to man.  The first written evidence is contained in the Atharva Veda circa 3000 B.C. Ancient texts help to explain the origins and workings of the universe and life as we know it.  Ayurvedic texts specifically teach us how to lead a healthy and happy life thus enabling us to realise our full potential.



An open level yoga workshop to weave the threads of Yoga & Ayurveda together. We’ll give you some time to understand your own constitution and lead you through pranayama and asana practices so that you understand how best to apply them to your needs. Begin to attune & syncronise your own cycles to the cycles present in each day and each season.



This lunch will introduce you to the doshic qualities of different foods. Let your intuition guide you towards foods that will suit your constitution. Learn about how different foods can help to ground us, uplift us, calm us and how eating can become a practice in mindfulness as well as pleasure. Lunch will be served family style on one big long table in the Long Room

Doug is the Ayurvedic practitioner & co-owner of Satmya. He was first introduced to Ayurveda whilst taking a sports psychology class as part of his biology degree in the University of Denver (DU). At the time Doug was on a swimming scholarship in DU and as an elite swimmer the ancient science of Ayurveda peaked his interest greatly.

Upon retiring from swimming he pursued Ayurveda full time at Ayurveda College, Australia. Under the tutelage of professor Jason Chandler a highly respected Vaidyacharya (Ayurvedic Doctor & Teacher) he studied classical Ayurveda for 4 years. Doug graduated in 2007 and returned home to set up Satmya in Killaloe.

Doug is available for Ayurvedic consultations & treatments at Satmya. He also teaches a range of Ayurvedic courses at Satmya and at other locations around the country.

Qualifications: Advanced Dip. Ayurveda, Bachelor of Arts, Biology


Cian Waters is a resident chef at the Fumbally Cafe and has travelled to India & Nepal, witnessing and practicing the art of cooking as a spiritual discipline, with the potential to nourish bodies and elevate hearts. As part of a collaboration with TG4 he recently spent time living with families and cooking in the Golden Temple where on an average day 75,000 people eat a free meal, prepared entirely by vounteers.





Katie is one of the resident yoga teachers in the Fumbally Stables on Wednesday nights. She teaches a broad spectrum of yoga from vinyasa flow to restorative, which always encourages practitioners to use the yoga as a means to express all their body is capable of, from deep relaxation to strength they didn’t realise they held. In class, she maintains an open atmosphere where any student can feel welcome, ask questions and share a laugh.

A trained massage therapist, Katie first became interested in Ayurveda through Ayurvedic massage techniques, and when she dug deeper she realised for her it was the piece that allowed the yoga practice to be effectively applied to daily life.
