Arán & Im lies somewhere between a performance and a workshop. Manchán Magan explores the depths of the Irish Language through sourdough bread baking and hand churned butter.
shall we bake bread together and churn some butter….and talk about the things that really matter. What’s the word for the lonesomeness of a cow bereft of her calf? Or for the sound horses makes when they meet after an absence?

Manchán Magan is a writer and documentary-maker. He has written books on his travels in Africa, India and South America and two novels. He writes occasionally for The Irish Times, reports on travel for various radio programmes, and has presented dozens of documentaries on issues of world culture for TG4, RTÉ & Travel Channel. His bilingual plays have been nominated for numerous awards, including 2 Irish Times Theatre Awards, Fishamble New Writing Award and Bewleys Café Theatre Award. Arán & Im is a development of his theatrical installation Gaeilge Tamagotchi – both were designed by the architect, Tom de Paor. www.manchan.com
